Sewing 101 is a modern-day primer on the basic skills and techniques of sewing. This book is geared toward the absolute novice and assumes you know little or nothing about the craft. Filled with lots of step-by-step photos, useful sewing tip sidebars, and a painstakingly detailed glossary, Sewing 101 teaches you how to sew successfully. You will learn terminology used regularly in sewing, as well as all the basic skills that are the building blocks of the art. From threading the machine to sewing a straight stitch, to more complicated procedures such as installing zippers and following patterns, everything is covered. Chapters include such topics as: the sewing machine and its accessories, sewing supplies and how to use them, how to shop for, prepare, measure and cut fabric, and more. Each new technique is taught via the creation of an actual project, such as a pillow, window treatment, t-shirt, or baby blanket, thereby allowing you to learn a new skill and create an item to wear, display or use in your home. Dust off that machine and begin sewing for fun and function!'

My mother was a professional seamstress, and she used ginghers. When I picked up sewing as a practical hobby, I tried all kinds of scissors at the sewing studio where I take lessons and at various stores. I thought something more “ergo” would be better than the 30 year old ginghers I had inherited from my mother. I was wrong. You can’t beat ginghers. I use my mother’s ginghers at home, this pair for all kinds of snips while sewing, and I bought a set of new gingher dressmakers and embroidery scissors to keep in my sewing kit I take to class.

Good size, and very sharp. They have a wonderful weight and feel like a quality product.

I picked up a few Gingher scissors for myself and the wife and for use in our sewing/crafts room. Never in my life of 61 years have I got cut with any scissors, until I got the 5″ dressmaker scissors. I snipped a thread and my finger tip was just a bit too far towards the scissors tip and the result was 6 stitches at the ER. These are perhaps the best scissors I have ever had or that is made, and the price is more than reasonable. Highly recomend Ginghers over any currently available scissors youfind in big box stores and most specialty shops as well as on line. (I am Roy not Tara we just use the same account to simplify things)
